Beauty Tip of the Week: Get Healthier, Stronger Hair

beautiful-Healthy-Hair-235x300*image from here

Everyone wants healthy looking hair that is strong and shiny, but with all the torture we put our hair through it seems impossible. Between blow drying, straightening, curling, coloring, over washing, our hair needs a little TLC. Of course you don’t have to completely give up your torture devices, but with a little extra care (and giving your hair a break), you can get healthy hair!

-First of all, try not to heat style your hair every single day. Try doing it every other. Plus since it is summer now, which means humidity, rain, pools, beach, etc. There’s no point in spending forever styling your hair when it is so hot out.

-Only shampoo your hair every other day if it is oily, and every two or three days if it is curly or dry. Just rinse your hair with water to get the products out, and use your daily conditioner. Your hair will still feel the same! Washing it everyday strips your hair of its natural oils, which keep it shiny and healthy. Also, use a sulfate-free shampoo like the ones from L’Oreal. Sulfates are used to make the shampoo lather up, but can be very drying. The L’Oreal ones still lather up nicely, but do not contain sulfates.

-Use a natural oil on your hair a few times a week before shampooing. Carol’s Daughter has an awesome oil called the Lisa’s Hair Elixir. You can use it as a deep hot oil treatment, or use it regularly before shampooing. I noticed a HUGE improvement in my hair after using this. Check out my review I did on the oil, and the blog post that goes with it.

-Use a deep conditioner (especially if you have curly hair) once a week. I really like the One N Only Argon Oil Restorative Mask. Mix that with a little of the Carol’s Daughter Oil and you have the best extreme conditioning mask! Let it sit for a good 10 minutes and you will notice a huge improvement in the texture of your hair.

-Nothing will get rid of split ends except cutting them! Products like the Carol’s Daughter Lisa’s Hair Elixir will help make hair stronger so it won’t break off more. It will aid in future breakage, but only cutting will get rid of them. Trim your hair about once a month to keep it healthy. It will grow faster too! Even though your hair grows from the roots, if the ends are dead and split, they will continue to split up the shaft and break off. So trimming them stops them in their tracks!

-Wait until your hair is dry to brush it, since hair is fragile when its wet. You can use a wide tooth comb when it is wet to prevent breakage. Hair doesn’t get caught in combs like it does brushes. Also, avoid wearing your hair up too much. You’d be surprised how much the hair breaks off from having it up tightly. If you do like it up, wear it loose with a soft elastic that does not have a metal piece.

-Take a vitamin to promote hair growth and strength. I LOVE the Nature’s Bounty Hair Skin and Nails vitamins. I have seen a big difference since taking these. I just bought my second bottle. My hair feels so much stronger, and has been growing so fast!

What are your healthy hair tips? Comment below so I can add them to the next Beauty Tip of the Week. I hope these helped you!

Watch the video for more!

Carol’s Daughter has all natural hair products, skincare, and bath & body products. They are all free of parabens, mineral oils, petroleum, and artificial colors. They have products for everyone’s hair type or needs such as: curls, relaxed, color treated, clarify, repair, moisture, etc. You will definitely find something for you! My hair is curly, so I am interesting in trying out the Hair Milk line, designed for curly hair. Even if you have straight, fine hair these will work for you!

The Lisa’s Hair Elixir is a oil treatment designed to moisturize and restore your hair if it is dry and damaged. The oil contains nourishing oils such as peppermint, rosemary, olive, soybean, almond, just to name a few. It makes you hair super soft and shiny, and keeps frizz down. It even helps promote hair growth because it prevents your hair from breaking off. It can also be used on your scalp. I don’t have dandruff, but my scalp does get dry from alcohol based products. This really helped to soothe my scalp and keep it from getting dry. You can use it as a hot oil treatment weekly, or use it daily. When using it as a hot oil treatment, warm the bottle up under hot water and apply it all over your head. Then I like to tie my hair up and let it sit for about ten minutes. You can also add a shower cap or towel over it to really try the moisture in. Then I shampoo and condition my hair AFTER. You have to use it before you shampoo because I applied some after I shampooed and my hair looked so greasy! When I don’t use it hot, I use it about every other day before I shampoo and let it sit for about 5 minutes. It really makes my hair feel and look healthier.

The Hair Balm is a thick, oily cream that is used to add shine and reduce frizz, while also nourishing and preventing breakage. It contains shea and cocoa butter, and oils such as almond, soybean, coconut, and more! I like to apply this to my hair when it is damp and towel-dried. I put about a nickel size from my ears down, before I apply my mousse and curl cream. This really keeps the frizz down and smooths out my hair.

I have noticed a huge improvement in the look and feel of my hair. It has really helped my hair grow faster, and prevent it from breaking and splitting more. The prices may seem a bit high to some, but to me it is worth it to get healthier hair. The products will last you a long time, and I know you won’t be disappointed in them :) BUT to save you some money, I have a few coupons for you!

Beauty Tip of the Week: Long Lasting Lip Color

*Image from here
There is nothing more annoying then spending forever on your lipstick and it only lasting about an hour, or smearing right off when you eat. Here's a few tips to keep your lip color from going anywhere:

-Lip glosses are just bound to come off, since they are sticky and wet. So if you want your lip color to last longer, don't add a gloss over it. Some lip glosses are made to be long lasting, but they are usually the stickiest, which makes you want to wipe it right off anyways.

-Lipsticks are going to last much longer than gloss. Matte lipsticks, like the Revlon Matte ones, are going to last the longest. However, they can be a bit drying. Add a bit of lip balm first, like the EOS ones, and then blot off the excess. This is going to make it more moisturized, but still stay on. But you have to blot if off before applying the matte lipstick because it will just slide around.

-To get maximum staying power for lipsticks:
-Apply a small bit of cream concealer, like the MAC Studio Finish, to the edges of your mouth. This will help the lipstick stick, and hide any redness around the mouth.
-Set it by blotting lips with a powder, like the MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural. This will seal it in place a absorb any oils that might make the color smear.
-Apply a lip liner that matches your natural lip color or that is the same as your lipstick. My favorite are the NYX Lip Liners. I also like the Maybelline Clear Lip Liner, since its is clear it can be worn with anything. This always make the color stay on so much longer! Line the edges and definitely fill the lips in. Lip liners are matte and won't rub off!
-Apply your lipstick in a thin layer, and then blot. Apply a second thin layer over it. This will make it last way longer!

-If you don't like the look of matte lips, choose a creamy lipstick, that is still long wearing. The Maybelline Color Sensational Lipsticks are creamy but last a long time. If you must add a gloss, only apply it to the center of your lips. The corners are going to wear off first, so avoid them with gloss. By only applying gloss to the center, your lips will look fuller too!

-Some lipsticks that advertise "long wearing" like the Maybelline Superstay 16-Hour Lip Color, are extremely drying to lips and just flake off when they fade. I do not recommend these types of lipsticks.

Hope some of these tips helped!

A tip from one of last week's readers:
"Nice tips :) I would like to add that there are two products from The Body Shop that I use regularly for getting THE glow: the Glow Enhancer (applied lightly to cheeks and forehead) and, recently, the Bronzing Gel for face, from the new collection (applied all over mixed with a light foundation). These help giving an extra radiance to your natural glow :)". From LUUUX user: Inês Carvalho.
