Beauty Tip of the Week: Prevent Makeup from Melting

*image from here

It seems next to impossible to keep your makeup on all day with this hot summer heat. As soon as the you step out into the humidity you can just feel your foundation melt off, your eyeshadow and concealer creasing, or your eyeliner smearing. These are all pesky problems, especially when your trying to have a good time in the summer and not worry about touching up your makeup. I have learned a few ways to keep my makeup on all day, and not fade off. These are also good things to keep in mind if you are going to be spending the day at the beach or pool.

Foundation
-Start off with a good face primer. Face primer is going to make your foundation go on a lot smoother and stay put. If you are oily, go for a mattifying one. My skin can be a but dry, so I like the L'Oreal Studio Secrets Magic Perfecting Base. It makes a huge difference.
-Its good to go very light for the summer, so just use a powder on the areas where you get oily if you don't need that much coverage. The MAC Mineralized Skinfinish Natural is good for that. If you want to wear foundation or if you need more coverage, wear a matte mineral foundation. I LOVE my Bare Minerals Matte Foundation. It is a full coverage foundation, and it stays put all day. It doesn't make your face feel like you have foundation on, and it doesn't clog up my pores as bad. If you really like liquid foundation, go for a waterproof one like Makeup Forever's Waterproof foundation. When using liquid, always set it with a powder!

Bronzer & Blush
-I absolutely love my NARS Laguna bronzer, and I don't have a problem with it fading off. However, if you do, try a waterproof bronzer like Tarte's Matte Waterproof Bronzer.
-For blush, I think that cream blushes stay on a lot longer. My favorites are the NYX Rouge Cream Blushes. They blend in really nicely and stay put. Some people say they melt off, so if you have a problem with that then set them with a powder blush that matches (or even a translucent powder) for maximum staying power.

Eyeshadow
-I wouldn't recommend wearing eyeshadow if you are going to be in the water. Its not really necessary and is likely to come right off. But if your just going to be out in the heat, try using a cream eyeshadow, and set it with a powder eyeshadow or dust it with translucent powder.
-ALWAYS always use an eyeshadow primer. They will keep all shadows from creasing, and make them look vibrant. I love the Urban Decay Primer Potion, or a cheaper alternative is the ELF Mineral Eyeshadow Primer (only $3!)

Eyeliner & Mascara
-I did another Beauty Tip of the Week on How to Prevent Eyeliner and Mascara from Smudging. You can read all about that here.
-Basically, set all eyeliners with a powder eyeshadow to keep them on. And use waterproof eyeliners and mascara. Avoid putting pencil or cream eyeliner in the outer corners of the eyes because that's where it seems to smudge more. Read that post for much more on this!

Lipstick & Lipgloss
-Once again, I have done a Beauty Tip of the Week on How to Get Long Lasting Lip Color. Check that out for tons of tips.
-Basically, apply a powder around your lips to keep color from bleeding. Also, stick to matte lipsticks or lip stains, since they last longer. Try just using a lip liner and lip balm for a long wearing lip color.
-I also have a post on How to Heal Chapped Lips.

Remember, keep makeup minimal in the summer. On a daily basis for the heat I like to stick to: primer, mineral foundation, bronzer, blush, gel eyeliner, and mascara. And that's it! Let me know if you would like to see a video tutorial on this simple summer look!

Beauty Tip of the Week: Smooth Summer Legs

*image from here

No one feels confident showing of their legs when they're not looking their best. Summer is all about baring them in skirts, shorts, dresses, and bikinis. Here's how to get the closest shave, and have your legs smooth and flawless.

-Start off by soaking your legs in hot water In the bath or the shower. This allows for the hair and skin to soften up for easier shaving.
-Use an exfoliating body scrub BEFORE you shave. By doing it before, you are removing the dead skin so the razor can get right against the skin. Plus your razor won't clog up with dead skin, EW! I love the Burt's Bees Cranberry Pomegranate Sugar Scrub. This one is oil based though, so make sure you wash it off with soap or body wash because the oil will cake up in your razor. Trust me its not fun and it ruins it.
-Then apply your favorite shaving cream. Always use shaving cream and never shave with soaps or shampoo or conditioner. These may work, but can dry out your skin or make you more likely to get nicks. They are not made for shaving. I love the Satin Care for sensitive skin. Its made by Gillette (Which makes awesome shave gel for men). And always get the gel, and not just the cream. It goes on so much better and you don't need as much.
-Use a razor that has at least 3 blades. Anything less is just not going to get the job done. Disposables are good because you are using a fresh one everyday. But I like the refills for the Venus Embrace ones. These are awesome because they have a band of aloe and 4 blades. Make sure you change your blades monthly though, depending on how much you shave.
-Shave in the opposite direction that the hair grows for the closest shave. For me, I have to go in at least 3 directions on my thighs.
-Rinse with cool water to close up pores. Finish off with a body butter or a natural lotion like Aveeno's Daily Lotion. Lotion is a MUST after shaving or your legs will get so ashy!

A few little extras:
-Mix your self-tanner with your lotion to add some color. My all time fav: Sun Labs.
-Apply a bit of baby oil to your shins for that sexy glow. But don't go too crazy with it!
-Dust a body shimmer, shimmery eyeshadow, or bronzer down your shins for that glow.
-Wear bug spray if your going to be outside to avoid those pesky unattractive mosquito bites.
-Never shave in a hurry so you don't get bloody nicks all over.
-NEVER ever shave dry or with lotion. BIG no no!

Comment below with your beauty tips, so I can put them in the next post!

Beauty Tip of the Week: Make Your Eyes Look More Awake

Everyone wants sparkling awake looking eyes! But it can be pretty hard to get when your running on a few hours of sleep and little time to do makeup. Here are a few tricks I know to relieve tired eyes, and make them look more awake!

-De-puff eyes and fade dark circles using the Garnier Anti-puff Eye Roller. The caffeine helps to reduce swelling and the cold metal roller feels nice around tired eyes. They also make on that has some concealer in it, called Garnier Anti-Dark Circle Eye Roller.
-Use a concealer with a peachy tone, like Eve Pearl Salmon Concealer, to conteract the blueness in dark circles.
-Avoid using heavy black eyeliner in your waterline. Apply your liner to your lower lashline and only bring it in about to the inner side of your iris (shown below).
-Apply a shimmery champagne color to the inner corners of your eyes (shown above). I love the one in the Maybelline EyeStudio palette in Give Me Gold. This is the oldest trick in the book to brighten up your eyes, but it really works! Most people use a shimmery white, which is pretty too. But i think white looks best with dark smokey eyes and the champagne looks more natural.
-Apply a white eyeliner to your waterline (shown above), like the Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal Eye Pencil in Pure White. Or use a skintone color for a more natural effect, like the Stila Kajal Liner in Topaz. The white really accentuates the whites of your eyes and makes them appear less red and bright. If you have dark eyes like me, the whites will really pop!
-Apply a fun color to your lower inner lashline. It ads a nice pop of color and will really make your eyes stand out. Here I used Milani's Color Brilliance Eye Pencil in Aqua (i think they were discontinued so the price is high on Amazon). Any turquoise or purple color will look great though!
-Another thing you can do, that's fun too, is apply a sparkly silver liquid liner, like the NYX Liquid Crystal Liner in Crystal Silver, to the inner rims of your eyes. You can just apply this to your upper lashline, or use it as an accent with dramatic winged liner (shown below). Dramatic cat eyeliner also instantly makes your eyes look much bigger. You can manipulate your eye shape with how you draw your cat eye to make it however round or long you want!
I could go on and on, but I'm going to conclude with one more interesting trick. :)
-Ya know how cool toned red lipstick (one with a more blueish tint) makes your teeth look whiter? Well it can whiten up the look of your eyes as well! Whenever I wear my NYX Mega Shine Gloss in Plush Red (shown above), my eyes and teeth look so much whiter. Even though the attention is on the lips, the eyes still will stand out and look bright and awake!

#1 Tip- SLEEP! Sleep at least 8 hours so you don't have to fool with all this :)

What are your tips and tricks for making your eyes look more awake and bright? Comment below so they can be in the next Beauty Tip of the Week.

Sorry I have missed a few weeks on the Beauty Tip of the Week, its been crazy for me! But I promise I am getting back on track with them, and on time!
